Introducing the CSAIL News Room:
We've added a new News Room page with the following items:
An RSS feed of CSAIL related news.
We've used the Simile research group's Exhibit framework to create a more interactive view of past news articles. (This is a chance to take a look at some of our research in action!)
Expanded content including: An article about our DARPA Grand Challenge Team, an Alumni Spotlight on CSAIL's Sam Madden, and an article about the 2007 CSAIL Olympics. Keep an eye on the News Room for more articles about research in CSAIL and the CSAIL community.
CSAIL members and alumni: If you have an idea for an article about CSAIL research, history, or an alumni spotlight or if you would be interested in doing some writing about the lab, please email news@csail.mit.edu. If you are working on a research project that you think we could showcase by integrating a portion of it into the CSAIL web site we are interested in hearing about that too!In Memoriam:
CSAIL community member Doug Ross passed away on January 31st, 2007 at age 77. Doug Ross was a pioneer in computer science and engineering.
The Boston Globe reported that " While studying and later teaching at MIT in the 1950s, he directed development of APT, the computer language used for automatic programming of numerically controlled machine tools. He came up with the term computer-aided design, led MIT's CAD project through the 1960s, and helped develop the software engineering language AED. Mr. Ross also developed the Structured Analysis and Design Technique and founded SofTech to market products based on the system."
